Medical Crash wrote:No, you're BLIND. The Acceleration is bad, it's too big, this causes making accurate twitch shots impossible. Also, the sensitivity is too slow, needs to be at least 3 X what the max currently is.
Others will agree with me that the aiming is bad. COD Fanboy spotted
If you want better realism, then shut the **** up with the rest of you whiners. COD isn't realistic. Soldiers do not turn that quickly with kilos on the end of their arms. Sensitivity is fine
Acceleration from the outset? So you want a crutch for your hand-eye coordination? Lol please |

When it comes to hit detection, i'm more and more of the opinion that it's really a hitbox lag/network lag issue.
When it come to aiming, it's too consistently clunky to be just a lag issue. And I don't think it's the missing aim assist either, since I've had that turned off since Mordu's private trials. In DUST, most of my fine aiming at range is done with the left stick.
I will tell you this - when i play battlefield(Yay free PS3+ downloads) i know the failings are mine and mine alone. When i play DUST, maybe 5-10% of my deaths are attributable to wonky/failed core mechanics. Just guessing about the 5-10%, i don't keep track of it other than by my annoyance level.
The other thing that tells me those of us are not totally out-to-lunch re the core mechanics is the consistency with which they get mentioned in reviews of DUST. Just because a company mentions core mechanics or any broad trait inside a review does not mean that it is a major issue lying with the game.
Anyone can go in and put together a run of the mill review. Hell, you can easily use content from other reviews and reword it so that you save the time, effort, and money spent to even play the game (this excludes Dust obviously).
The mechanics are fine. |

Yesterday. Skim Junction. You and your crew were camping the roof of the mushroom over bravo.
I had gone out to recover echo(edited, had delta originally) and had to make my way back over the open killing field to the compound. So i did the drunken master walk across the field of death. Not sure how many of you were up there, i know i was taking fire from a sniper rifle and an AR. But i made it, tucked myself behind the cover of the wall with 80 armor left to heal up. The sniper had tagged me once and the AR had been landing sporadic pepper on me.
And then you got me, Doc, but it was sooo worth the death when i saw the killfeed.....Doctor Allopathy(EXO-5 Mass Driver)Vrain Matari.
Man i laughed. Still chuckling This is how this game progressed:
- I get online to play Dust. I pick Instant Battle "Skirmish" - Get into the Warbarge; pick the largest available squad under Team. - They turned out to be a bunch of Rednecks, but they're chill as **** - Game begins. I come out as a shotty (like normal); hack A, go to the supply depot and shoot some people down. I hear a tank passing by, so I get in my MLT FG suit - Tank disappears, I decide to shoot people with my FG. Some cherries decided to put uplinks on the mushroom, so I pick them off the top (lol). Heimatr or W/E his name is, a cherry on your team, decides to pick up the MLT FG as well because I'm kicking his ass with it and it's obviously a good weapon. - My team gets overran at B, A begins to get overran while I'm trying to ward people off since I ran out of ammo in my FG suit and the supply depot was destroyed earlier. I get killed
- Thinking cap goes on
- Pull out a gorgon. Fly to the mushroom in my MLT assault suit with an uplink; drop the gorgon too early, I fall and it crashes on top of me, so I suicided - Pull out another gorgon. Fly to the mushroom again, land it better this time WHILE YOUR MATES ARE SHOOTING ME. Get out, put an uplink down, take out one cherry while the other gets on my ass. I die, a teammate spawns. - Proceed to overtake the mushroom. - Spawn in my uplink suit again, throw it down again to reset it (and I tell my squad to throw some down to make sure we keep it). I put one inside the missle launcher in case we get OB'd (which we did). - Reds still dominating below; I pull out my MD suit to start clearing the area (mad? Obviously you're mad)
- Retake the field. Win the game etc etc
Please go. I use every weapon except for heavy weapons and the plasma cannon. Nothing has proficiency in it; if it did, you would all die more quickly. |

And it smells awful. If you review my posts, you'll notice that I never talk about the Dev's or anything related to game development in general, excluding this thread of course.
I couldn't care less about the dev's; this was the first game I really played involving CCP (then I played EvE for a while as well). Idk much about them, so what's this fanboy idea coming from?
Any more strawmans you all want to throw at me? Insults and character attacks?

Spaceman-Rob wrote:On a serious note I think anti aliasing is the culprit here. In my experience, I've never seen amazing graphics come from Dust. However, I'm using composite instead of HD, so I'm sure those who use HD may have a different experience (gameplay videos from other people look AWESOME compared to what I get).
On that note, I don't see jagged-anything. Everything looks pretty smooth; just not upgraded to the "proto" level of other peoples' graphics
Hit detection, IMO, is the culprit. I hate it when I land two shots on someone with my shotty, and they finish hacking that objective |

Wowski wrote:If you want to see how bad aiming is, run two complex modifiers and run up on somebody with a scrambler pistol. Shoot them in the head after your sprint and you will see the kind of thing I deal with on daily basis. I've had instances where I've shot someone from behind in the head 3 times before the 4th shot finally registers... it's bad. The shotgun suffers from this same kind of lag, it's less noticeable with an AR because the rate of fire is big that it's hard to notice, but with most pump and dump weapons it's the difference between getting a kill and getting killed.
Plasma cannons, flaylocks, and mass drivers all usually go through people if you don't hit the torso, and I guarantee it's not going through their legs every time.
That's called hit detection, which relates to server-side issues and client connections. That has nothing to do with actual aiming.

You people even play Chromosome? Did you even play another FPS before DUST? If you did, you'll see aiming sucks. Even CCP admitted aiming sucks cuz they're fixing it as we speak...or attempting to fix it.
"Let's make every FPS exactly identical to one another", said no one ever. However, many FPS are quite similar to each other, due to the relative success each group of companies has experienced in developing these games annually for over a decade. Guidelines have been set, and now the gamer base is experiencing deja vu every time they pick up a new CoD, or a new BF game (picking these because they are the most popular).
When it comes to aiming, real skill is shown in individuals who adapt their hand-eye coordination to whatever system they're exposed to. If the aiming differs, they adapt. Does that make sense?
CoD is much more fast paced. Faster aiming, and very unrealistic.
Dust has slower aiming along with multiple variables affecting individual gameplay, which are all dependent on USER CHOICE and selection in the skill tree, dropsuit deployment, and GAME SETTINGS.

I believe a main issue residing within all of the whiners is that you need some sort of crutch to augment your skills. Once again, learn to adapt to the aiming system.
Comparisons are irrelevant. I was an avid KZ2 fan which I played consistently for many months, and periodically for a few years.
Again, aiming is fine. It's a different system. Hit detection is the culprit, but if you're able to land your sights correctly on target then you should technically be receiving hit feedback.
Blame the servers, not the aiming. |

Drud Green wrote:Why are ccp "fixing" aiming if it's not broken?
People have adapted to the ****** aiming, they left and are playing something better.
It's called player demand.
An "issue" is not an issue unless mass attention is brought to it; in this case, aiming has become an issue. It really shouldn't be. In reality, people should attribute their issues to server lag and poor skills. Otherwise, aiming is fine. It's another SYSTEM which you need to ADAPT to. |

Aiming has been broken since Uprising was released. Sorry, but if you think aiming is fine, you're an idiot. Once again you're lacking the comprehension skills necessary to understand the real issues here.
Hit detection is one of the culprits. Server to client connections are another one, as well as latency issues which are probably present in-game, but no one has brought that up yet.
For instance, if I take my AR and I fire a burst shot, I'll hear the sound of 3 bullets whizzing out. The wall I'm shooting at shows three bullet marks. I take a look at my ammo slot, and notice that only two bullets shot out.
If you burst fire even more rapidly, you'll notice you only shot out one bullet at a time (server registry), when in reality the client portion (which gives you sound feedback) shows that two bullets were fired.
Imagine how firefights play out with this issue? Add in hit detection to top it off. |
